Project Overview
The 200 MW / 800 MWh Scarlet Energy Storage battery energy storage system will enhance the reliability of the electric grid in Spotsylvania County. The project will abide by the most stringent national design and safety standards to ensure it operates predictably and maximizes benefits to the electric grid, the County, and the surrounding area.
Construction of the Scarlet Energy Storage facility is anticipated to start in 2027. The 2029 completion of the facility will ensure that Virginia meets its reliability needs and reaches its goal to deploy 3,100 MW of battery energy storage by 2036, as mandated by the Virginia Clean Energy Act.
Located along the County’s Electric Transmission Corridor, the low-profile and unobtrusive Scarlet Energy Storage will be developed on approximately 15 acres located immediately adjacent to the western side of the existing Chancellor electrical substation. Scarlet's site location is optimal for energy infrastructure. It does not require long transmission lines to connect the facility to the power grid as it is co-located with the existing substation and high-voltage overhead electric transmission system.
